A sonnet inspired by Webster's play, The Duchess of Malfi - in particular, a brother with 'interesting' desires regarding his sister...
A sweet sister
who joined me in the womb
The duchy
painted with our same bloodlines
She kept me sane
in unexpected gloom
That swept
around my eyesight like green vines
Oh, she is a
widow without a veil
The lively
passion dripping from her mind
To meet the
suitor to complete her tale
Yet I know
someone who will be her bind
T’is I, a silent
servant of her love
The times
uncounted I have almost spake
To be- what
would be fitting and behove?
I cannot live
just in her lusty wake!
Sibling air
evaporated long before
It must be the
two of us, or never more.
